DVS1 / Beatrice / Job Jobse / Meilgaarden / Ian Crane is on Fri, Sep 13, 2024 at Basement, Maspeth. Lineup: DVS1.
DVS1 drops into BASEMENT for an extended set. The maestro of midwest techno has been one of North America’s defining talents since the early days of rave music. Steeped in an underground, DIY ethos and eschewing any dilutions or diversions, DVS1 has lived and breathed techno decades. His productions land in a perfect spot between heady, hypnotic undulations and driving, jacking techno. Meanwhile, his sets are tunneling affairs with a rigorous focus on the dancefloor. “DJs shouldn’t be on a stage,” he once told DJ Mag. “We’re not a band. We’re a vessel for the music. Get us out of the way, get rid of all that extra clutter and fill it with speakers!” BASEMENT resident Beatrice returns, repping the next generation. The Spanish-born, Berlin-based artist is one to watch, tapping into a lineage of raw, decisive techno with surprising, risky turns.
Job Jobse makes his STUDIO debut. In Amsterdam’s thriving underground, Jobse is a certified star; a beloved artist whose life-affirming, joyful and trance inducing style has made him a pillar of the community. In his hands, every track is an anthem, and every moment feels like a climax. Meilgaarden’s particular blend of roiling, key-ed up effervescence grooves and slams with perfect, rubbery impact. This is some serious fun for astute hedonists and forward-thinking club kids. State of Bliss founder Ian Crane continues to make an impression with color-soaked, no-f’s given deep dives into house’s most ebullient corner.
