FIST: Regal / Annie Lew / Word of Command b2b DJ Clone / MCMLXXXV / ketia / JOSELO is on Sat, Aug 17, 2024 at Basement, Maspeth. Lineup: Regal.
Regal returns for FIST. The Involve Records founder is one of techno’s most tapped-in artists. He captures the core of the genre with unerring vision and brings it to life with a personal twist. His most recent EP, “Not Another Summer,” seizes the moment with glee; across four tracks tailor made for the summer and “high energy crowds,” Regal embraces the banger as a form and a challenge. These are huge tracks that explode out the gate with the energy of a fighting bull and the precision build of a Ferrari. Annie Lew continues her run, summoning techno of a darker order. The Infra resident has quickly established herself as one of NY’s most impressive names, playing with the seasoned cool and dedicated focus of a veteran while embodying the raw energy of the next generation. FIST residents Word of Command and DJ Clone share the spotlight for a b2b. Each approaches the visceral, even maniacal from their own angle, presenting techno as a truly deviant form.
Herrensauna’s own MCMLXXXV drops into STUDIO. The Berlin artist is primarily known for tightly coiled, tripping techno, so a set at STUDIO offers up an intriguing turn. But even when he’s going full bore, MCMLXXXV always adds a twist to the mix. His sets include everything from simmering, underground minimalism to no-fucks-given Nirvana remixes. It’s dealer’s choice. Ketia returns from Lisbon. The Kit Ket co-founder has been an unstoppable force pushing for queer and trans liberation via raving in their home city. The world has taken note. Maricón founder Joselo returns. As an organizer, Joselo has made Maricón a hub for Latinx artists and QTPOC DJs, creating cross-cultural connections and fostering emergent talent. Strap in.
