Frædag with Carl Craig is on Fri, Jul 29, 2016 at Jaeger, Oslo. Lineup: Carl Craig.
From the promoterThis edition of Frædag sees musical dignitary, Carl Craig pay us a visit in our basement. Representing Detroit, and one of the finest musical examples to come out of the city, Carl Craig's influence over the course of his extensive career is well documented and for one night in July he'll be bringing that experience to Jæger and Oslo. Carl Craig is described as a creative visionary, a groundbreaking electronic music icon, an inspirational artist, an esteemed Grammy-nominated composer, a world-class DJ and an ambassador for his native Detroit. Yet the common thread that runs through Craig's broad musical canon and creative projects is a resounding fascination with futurism. Carl Craig has cultivated a unique path as an artist, entrepreneur and civic leader, guided by his tendency to always be looking toward the future and breaking barriers. A Gemini true to form, with a mind that never sits still, Craig has released a diverse range of experimental and groundbreaking music under a plethora of aliases including 69, BFC, C2, Innerzone Orchestra ('Bug in the Bassbin' was credited as the spark that inspired the evolution of drum'n'bass), No Boundaries, Psyche, Paperclip People, Tres Demented, Urban Tribe and many more.
Detroit, the city Craig still calls home today, courses relentlessly through his veins with the artist's sound firmly ingrained in the intellectual margins of Techno and House from the city and his label Planet E, which plays home to many artistic neighbours. He's a relentless innovator and his music emerges at the crossroads where artistic boundaries converge. When Craig explains his philosophy on music, his wry sense of humour seeps into his explanations of far-reaching concepts that merge worlds together. "I have a very special career. When I feel that I'm tired of going on the road I can go in the studio. When I'm tired of concentrating in the studio I can go on the road. I can work with concert pianists, jazz musicians or rock guys. Very few people have that range of interests. Very few people juggle a career that they choose specifically." No one else can pull it all together quite like Carl Craig.
Carl Craig will be the latest edition to a long list of esteemed artists to visit Oslo thanks to the Frædag crew. G-Ha & Olanskii, Oslo’s most experienced DJs and Sunkissed stalwarts, never fail in bringing some the world’s most endearing talents to the city for this weekly event, where the DJ duo are truly at home, and showcase the talent that has seen them play the dance floors of Fabric, Panorama Bar and Robert Johnson, to name but a few. There’s no other weekly residency in Norway that can boast their incredible international guestlist and with Carl Craig joining the fray they've made it incredibly harder to try. While Craig, g-Ha & Olanskii keep it cosy in our basement, Celius, Oskar Pask and Ricky Late will be in our sauna keeping things humid with a blend of House, Techno, Afro-beat and Disco.
