Giant Step 25th Anniversary Party is on Mon, Sep 21, 2015 at Le Bain, New York. Lineup: Nickodemus.
Back in September 1990, David Dinkins was the mayor of NYC, George H. W. Bush was the president, and the number one selling record was Wilson Phillips' “Release Me." Whoa! That same month, Maurice Bernstein and his partner Jonathan Rudnick decided to start a weekly party called “Giant Step” merging the sound of Hip-Hop and Jazz with DJs and live musicians. SOBs was the venue, and on Monday, September 24th, we opened the doors. We certainly didn’t set the world alight during those first few weeks and months, but we did realize there were kindred spirits in the scene. Quickly a community was born.
In the last 25 years, Giant Step has evolved and changed as has everything. We continued growing with our club nights and events; we managed and developed talent from the burgeoning scene. Signed record deals, made records, got dropped, set up our own label. Marketed and helped break some of the most important music acts of the last quarter century. Then, we developed into an award-winning agency working with brands such as Absolut, Samsung, and Old Navy.
However we NEVER forgot the music that brought us here in the first place. So on September 21st, please join us for a very special 25th Anniversary Edition of Giant Step at Le Bain at The Standard, High Line featuring two of the original DJs from the early years, Jazzy Nice and Nickodemus, plus some of the original Giant Step musicians, Gordon Clay aka Nappy G, Jay Rodriguez and Genji Siraisi.
The event is free with RSVP and powered by Blackwell Rum.
